Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling Pt. 2

When I first started reading this book by Mindy Kaling, I thought it was going to be one of those cliche advice books that your mom gives to you. But as I continued reading, I think it's more about her journey towards success. Like an autobiography except actually fun to read. I really admire her writing technique.

When I read this book, I find it really easy to hear the authors voice. You really get a sense of Mindy Kaling's personality. She shows a lot of her opinions on things that she's experienced except in general. You know? Like if she got stood up, then she'd have a little section about her talking about being stood up. I find her little outbursts pretty funny!

One other technique she uses that I really like is that it feels like you're actually having a conversation with her. You really learn a lot about her and how to make it in comedy. But she really just sounds like a normal, funny person talking to the reader.

I recommend this book because it's a really fun read and you will find yourself laughing. You can connect and understand the author without even really knowing her... even though it seems like you do.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling

The book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? is by Mindy Kaling. Mindy Kaling is probably known to most as Kelly from The Office. Her book is about her troubles as she went through her younger years of life fighting to be accepted and chasing after her dreams. I think the purpose of this book is to show that if there is something you really want, you have to fight and actually work hard to get it.
In the begging of this book, Mindy Kaling talks about her love of comedy and acting and her dreams of being on one of those comedy central shows such as Conan. However, before she understood her love for acting and comedy, she hung out with a group of girls who she didnt have much in common with. They didn't get her sense of humor and the skits she showed them didn't entertain them. But Mindy Kaling had one friend, who shared the exact same sense of humor as her, and on the weekends, they would watch Monty Python and raid each others fridges. Mindy Kaling began spending more time with this other friend, and decided to just ditch her other friends all together. I think she included this part to show how sometimes you have to give somethings up in life to get where you really want to go. And that when you do, you might find that those things were holding you back.
This author also demonstrates how you really have to be motivated and be able to get things done on your own. An example of this is that Mindy Kaling used to be a little pudgy in her younger years, so she went on a self motivated sort of... cut back on her intake of food. Also, when she went off to college and gained the "freshman 35", she asked her friend if she would run with her every morning and that helped her lose that weight.
In conclusion, I think that Mindy Kaling is writing this book only to help people accomplish their goals. She's been really successful and this book is basically just saying how to stay on track and (I know this sounds totally cliche) follow your heart.
